Joan Vinyoli (Barcelona, 1914-1984) was a Catalan poet. His interest in the poetic art of Carles Riba and his admiration for Rainer Maria Rilke shaped his lyric poetry, as did the influence of German Romanticism and Postsimbolism. With a clear connection between his life experience and his poetic works, in his poems we see a clear sense of mysticism and a deep reflection on the issue of faith. Widespread recognition came in the seventies, with the publication of Tot és ara i res. Up until 1984 he published regularly and recieved several accolades: Lletra d’Or award 1974, Critics’ award for Catalan poetry 1976 and 1984, Creu de Sant Jordi 1976 and five Serra d’Or Critics’ awards.

Jordi Llavina Murgadas (Gelida, 1968) is a writer, poet, literary critic and television and radio presenter. Winner of the Josep Pla prize for narrative (2001) and the poetry prizes Ciutat de Mallorca (2006), Serra d’Or Critics’ (2008) and Vicent Andrés Estellés (2011), he has published short stories, novels and several poetry collections. He was the comissioner of the Joan Vinyoli year (2014).

Bèsties is a wallpaper collection that combines the poetry and the portraits of some of the most acclaimed authors of universal literature. A selection of excerpts —posthumous, unpublished, forgotten— are presented in a groundbreaking format by the translators, current Catalan poets. The posters escape the parcelling of conventional pagination to project in a single canvas the unity of meaning emanating from the poems. Each wallpaper comes with a separate front page including a foreword by the translator, which contextualizes their selection and situates the author in their context.
